What we do
One World Action works with local partners in Africa, Asia and Central America to create the power and opportunity for poor women and men to transform their own lives. They also campaign in Europe to challenge international policies that make and keep people poor, ensuring their partner’s voices are heard.
Why we do it
One World Action believes in tackling the root causes of poverty. Lack of food, housing, water or education can be devastating for poor and marginalized people, but they are the symptoms of poverty. The root cause of poverty is lack of power and influence. Real change can only happen when the poorest citizens know how to exercise their rights and can hold their elected representatives, public officials and others to account for the provision of basic services.
How We Do It
One World Action provides training and other support to partners mobilizing communities and organizing for their rights. Their partners have a common commitment to strengthening local institutions and giving people a say in the decisions that shape their lives. One World Action does not impose an agenda – their partners understand their situation better than people in the global North ever will. But One World Action does assist in removing barriers such as lack of money or capacity in Africa, or unfair trade rules in Europe. They also link their partners together so they can learn from each other across borders and between cultures, forming networks that operate independently. In doing all this, One World Action aims to make real our values of inclusiveness and gender equality.
