The Trust was set up in memory of Lady Taylor of Gosforth, the wife of the late Lord Chief Justice and trustee of The Butler Trust, the Prison Service annual award scheme.
Since 1995, the Trust has run over 80 creative music based projects working directly with men, women, young offenders and juveniles in a variety of prison establishments in the UK. Through music and high quality arts activity, the Irene Taylor Trust aims to teach artistic and personal skills that participants will be able to draw on in every day life. By working in conjunction with prison education departments, the Trust enables prisoners to achieve recognised accreditation in key skills. In each case, by evaluating project outcomes, the Trust continues to raise the profile of music and arts in prisons through the dissemination of its working practices.
