Core Arts
Core Arts is a registered charity that exists to promote freely and without prejudice, the artistic and creative abilities of people who experience severe and enduring mental health problems.
Through professional educational input and emotional support they are able to develop and promote the individual’s artistic and creative ability. The aim is to empower and equip members to achieve their personal goals and aspirations and make a full contribution to society.
Core Arts challenges negative stereotypes and the stigma facing people with mental health issues by the promotion of their positive attributes and strengths and develops the artistic and creative potential of learners through high quality education, working alongside established musicians and artists and increase their access to the benefits of the arts.
In essence Core Arts aims to
- use the arts to break down many of the prejudices associated with people with mental health problems and promote access and participation
- provide an environment in which members are able to express themselves and their ideas and know they will be heard and respected
- use Social Enterprises and Social Firms to offer new opportunities for individuals to become economically independent
- respond to members' creative assets, drive and imagination and celebrate their talent and abilities through exhibitions and events
- strengthen local networks to help members integrate into the community
